How Effective are Radio Ads for a Small Business?
Looking for new ways to advertise my custom lithophane business. I have a newly designed website, an ad in my local paper, but I need more. I was thinking about a small radio ad that runs locally but I am not sure how effective radio ads are anymore. Anyone have an idea?
Radio ads *can* be effective, but it really depends on the station you pick and ensuring that that station covers the appropriate demographic to your customer base. That can be tough to figure out, unless you keep statistics on your customers. You can always try a small ad campaign and see if you get the response you hope for.
A novel way to advertise is through sponsorship. Sponsor local events by providing things like prizes or even donating money that you would put into advertising, and your logo will quickly appear on all literature, websites, T-shirts, etc. Many companies neglect to see this as advertising, but it can be very effective, especially if you select the proper event. A twist on this is to sponsor a radio contest – which avoids the commercials than many people “tune out” for. People always listen when it’s contest time.. so it’s an easy way to get your name heard over and over again, without the typical commerical structure.
Unfortunately, some of the best advertising is attending things like trade shows, expos, and the like. It can be loooong boring weekends, but feedback is usually positive. In the lithophane business, you are a prime cantidate for things like unique art shows and the like. They seem horrible upfront – and they are – but traffic speaks (and sells) volumes.
Also, you have a unique product. Try to pair with a photographer or art gallery to sell your product. The more places that people see things, the more likely they are to “need” it, if you get what I mean. Forging working relationships in related areas can be a boon for a small business.
It’s getting harder and harder for small businesses to advertise, and we found that novel ideas were the best for reaching and educating customers.

It is often said that the most important asset a company has are their staff.
