Digital Walkie
Digital Walkie

What is the most reliable cell phone on the market today?
After saying no for so long, I have decided to get a cell phone, but I want one above all else to be reliable. I live out in the boonedocks (Iowa to be somewhat more precise), so “digital only” is not and option. Streaming music and Internet connection are not a priority, maybe something with a camera, definitely a good speakerphone for hands free operation when needed, GPS would be nice. I like the idea of the Nextel Walkie Talkie, but there is so little coverage in the area I live and no one else in the area has it, so that would be pretty much a waste.
Cost are of some concern, but anything is possibe. Any good ideas out there?
I had a couple soup cans with a string attatched between them that always seemed to work. I think they held Campbell’s soup. I don’t think Campbell makes cell phones. But these cans, boy howdee, they were all metal, tin plated and sturdy. Never any dropped calls.
I’ve had Motorola and Samsung phones. They worked pretty well until they stopped working. As far as cell phone carriers goes, I’ve heard Verizon is one of the best. GPS cell phone? Not sure about that. Verizon has GPS-capable phones that show your location to the operator when you call 911, but it is not a stand-alone GPS device so you can track your way back to your favorite fishing hole or whatever.
And remember if you get an analog phone (do they even offer those anymore?), any ya-hoo with a 15 year old scanner can hear EVERYTHING you say. Something to think about in case you’re throwing your credit card number around on your phone call or talking about anything you wouldn’t want a bored, semi-drunk guy with an antenna on his roof to hear.
