If i set up a digital business radio VHF / UHF network, and I set up a mesh of repeaters across a city…?
Would each repeater receive and transmit on exactly the same channel, or would each repeater have its own 12.5Mhz channel, therefore requiring some sort of roaming setup to be programmed into the radio units?
I am very new to this technology and trying to self teach myself as much as possible. Thank you very much in advance.
You’ll have to set up the repeaters so they don’t interfere with each other. If they’re close together they will need to be on separate frequencies. If they’re far enough apart they can use the same frequency. Far enough apart can be up to 100 miles depending on terrain and power output. By VHF/UHF, do you mean linking repeaters in one band with frequencies from the other band? If so, you should look into microwave links. They may be easier to deal with as far as licensing goes. It’s a lot of work and takes a fair amount of money to do this. You’ll need to secure sites and license frequencies. You’ll also need good technicians for maintenance. There is a switch available to link the radios in a network but you’ll need one for each site at a cost of about $15,000.
