Should I try connecting a CB antenna to a wifi router?
Ok, I have found a sma-uhf adaptor and I was wondering if it would be worth trying to connect my CB radio antenna to my wifi router. I know if I did get this rig to work I would be limited to how far the reciving wifi device could transmit back. In that case I would hook another antenna to the wifi card. Anyways I thought It would be cool if I could have wifi for miles.
No way that will work, at least not properly. CB is 27Mhz in frequency, wifi is 2400Mhz, almost 100 times higher in frequency. The CB antenna will be a mis-match and simply reflect the signal back to the router.
UHF adapters are of no use above a few hundred Mhz – you have to use sma-N adapters to get to N type connectors, which are common in wifi industry.
wifi will only go “miles” if you have line of sight (and proper antennas). In other words, if you can see each other’s antennas, then it might work, otherwise forget it…
